Measurement
KI models for a fuel-injected engine:
To ensure proper fit of a 'KI' unit, measure
the inside diameter of the air intake hose at least 2 inches inside the
hose. The 'KI' units come in 5mm increments and will fit 1mm smaller to
3mm larger than the specified unit. For example:
KI-60 unit will fit a hose that measures 59mm
to 63mm.
KI-65 unit will fit a hose that measures 64mm to 68mm, etc.
KC models for a carbureted engine:
To ensure proper fit of a 'KC' unit, remove
the air lid cover and measure the height from the base of the housing
to the lid at a distance of 3 inches away from the center. This is most
easily accomplished by removing the air lid cover and placing a
straight edge (ruler) across the top of the air filter, then taking a
height measurement from the base to the straight edge at 3 inches away
from center. Then, do the same with the lid. Merely add or subtract the
lid height from the base height, depending upon whether the lid drops
below the top of the filter or rises above the filter.
Specific Installation Instructions
2 Units Required
The given vehicle application has an intake
system consisting of either dual intake hoses leading from the air
filter box to the throttle body or a single large intake hose leading
from the air filter then splits into two smaller hoses at the throttle
body. For either applications, two units are required, one to fit each
hose, in order to work effectively
After Filter Right Before Throttlebody
The given vehicle application has an intake
system consisting of a flat panel air filter with the throttle body
underneath it located on top of engine. The unit will installed in the
mouth of the throttle body after the air filter. Check and make sure
the directional airflow sticker on the side of the unit faces toward
the throttle body. Check and make sure the clearance between the unit
and butterfly valve (open position) is at least frac12" gap
Boot Near Transmission Dipstick
The given vehicle application is a turbo
diesel application where the unit will be installed after the
turbocharger. The unit will be installed inside the cold air pipe at
the end next to the intake manifold. The location of the cold air pipe
will be on the passenger side half of the engine bay leading from the
radiator to the back of the firewall into the intake manifold. Check
and make sure the directional airflow sticker on the side of the unit
faces toward the throttle body.
Inside Black Boot After Intercooler
The given vehicle application is a turbo
diesel application where the unit will be installed after the
turbocharger. The unit will be installed inside a black rubber boot
held by two large clamps leading from the intercooler to the intake
manifold. The location of the boot will be on the driver side half of
the engine bay. Check and make sure the directional airflow sticker on
the side of the unit faces toward the throttle body.
Inside Black Box Before Throttlebody
The given vehicle application has an intake
system consisting of a filter box located off to the side of the engine
bay and an intake hose/tube that leads over/behind the radiator does a
180deg bend then leads into a resonator box on top of the engine. The
unit will be installed into the resonator box on top of the engine
where the intake hose/tube ends into the box. Check and make sure the
directional airflow sticker on the side of the unit faces toward the
throttle body.
Inside Exit Port of Filter Box
The given vehicle application has an intake
system consisting of a filter box located off to the side of the engine
bay with a large intake hose leading into the engine. To properly
install the unit, disconnect the air intake hose from the filter box,
then insert the unit into the filter box. Finally, reattach the intake
hose back onto the filter box. Check and make sure the directional
airflow sticker on the side of the unit faces toward the throttle body.
Inside Resonator Box In Front of
Throttlebody
The given vehicle application has an intake
system consisting of a air filter box located off to the side of the
engine bay with the intake hose leading into a large resonator box in
the middle of the engine bay, then the resonator box connects to the
throttle body behind near the firewall (back of the engine bay). To
properly install the unit, disconnect the air intake hose leading into
the resonator box. Undo two bolts holding the resonator box to the top
of the engine , then remove the resonator box. Insert the unit into the
lip of the resonator box that was connected to the throttle body. Check
and make sure the directional airflow sticker on the side of the unit
faces toward the throttle body. Place resonator box back on top of the
engine, tighten the two bolts, and then reattach the air intake hose
back onto the resonator box.
Inside Second Hose After Mass Air Sensor
The given vehicle application has an intake
system consisting of a air filter box located off to the side of the
engine bay and two intake hoses connected to a mass air flow sensor in
between the hoses. The unit will be inserted into the second hose that
is located after the mass air flow sensor leading into the throttle
body. Check and make sure the directional airflow sticker on the side
of the unit faces toward the throttle body.
Inside Tube After Accordion Hose
The given vehicle application has an intake
system consisting of a air filter box located off to the side of the
engine bay with a short accordion intake hose connecting into a plastic
intake tube leading into the throttle body. The unit will be inserted
inside the plastic tube after the accordion hose. Check and make sure
the directional airflow sticker on the side of the unit faces toward
the throttle body.
Intake Hose After Intercooler
The given vehicle application is a turbo
diesel application where the unit will be installed after the
turbocharger. The unit will be installed inside the silicone hose
leading from the intercooler to the intake manifold. The location of
the silicone hose will be on the driver side half of the engine bay.
Check and make sure the directional airflow sticker on the side of the
unit faces toward the throttle body.
Oval Shaped Intake Hose
The given vehicle application has an intake
system consisting of a air filter box located off to the side of the
engine bay with an oval-shaped intake hose leading into the throttle
body. There is no unit application available for the given vehicle due
to its circular shape.
Second Hose After Resonator Box
The given vehicle application has an intake
system consisting of a air filter box located off to the side of the
engine bay and two intake hoses connected to a resonator box in between
the hoses. The unit will be inserted into the second hose that is
located after the resonator box leading into the throttle body. Check
and make sure the directional airflow sticker on the side of the unit
faces toward the throttle body.
Second Hose Near Firewall
The given vehicle application has an intake
system consisting of a flat panel air filter box located on top of the
engine and an intake hose leading from the air filter box to the
throttle body located near the firewall (back of the engine bay). The
unit will be installed inside the second hose leading from the filter
box to the throttle body located near the firewall (back of the engine
bay). Check and make sure the directional airflow sticker on the side
of the unit faces toward the throttle body.
